Factors To Consider When Shopping for a Canvas Wall Tent

When it comes to selecting a wall tent for your outdoor adventures, there are several important factors to consider. From size and capacity to material of canvas tents and climate considerations, making the right choice can enhance your family camping experience.

Size and Capacity
First and foremost, think about how many people will be using the tent. Consider the number of occupants to ensure everyone has enough space to sleep comfortably. Additionally, factor in camping gear storage needs. Will you need extra space for equipment or supplies? The type of activity you plan to engage in, whether it's hunting, outdoor camping, or glamping, will influence the size requirements of the tent.

Material of Canvas tents
When it comes to the material of the wall tent, you have two main options: canvas or synthetic. Canvas tents are the traditional choice, known for their durability and breathability. However, they tend to be heavier. On the other hand, synthetic tents are lighter and easier to maintain, but they may not be as durable or breathable as canvas.

Climate
It's essential to choose a wall tent that can withstand the climate conditions you'll be facing. Look for tent insulation properties that are suitable for the temperature extremes of your outdoor camping location. Adequate ventilation is crucial for comfort, especially in warmer climates. Make sure the tent is waterproof to protect you from unexpected precipitation, or expected snowfall.

Canvas Wall Tent vs. Canvas Bell Tent

The biggest visible difference between a wall tent and a bell tent is the shape. A wall tent looks more like a rectangle and a bell tent looks more like a circular cone. The reason for this is their individual canvas tent support systems.

The frame of a canvas wall tent is supported by many steel poles that support and create the wall and the rafters. A bell tents simple structure is supported with a single center pole and a single A-frame door pole (along with guy line ropes). Both types of canvas wall tents are portable, but a wall tent(just like cabin tents) is a couple hundred pounds heavier with all the added tent poles (making it take more time to erect).

A canvas wall tent does win when it comes to overall head room inside of a bell tent. The center of a bell tent is going to be much higher though, but the nature of the design creates less head room along the walls for standing (which is why beds and furniture are usually positioned along the sides of a bell tent).

Wall Tent FAQ's

Are wall tents easy to set up?

Wall tents come with a sturdy tent frame that takes a bit more time to assemble than a bell tent, but the process is straightforward once you’ve done it once or twice. What kind of flooring should I use?
